DIY: Fat Removal Surgery


I could not find out who the artist was. 
There are a lot of ways to think of this statue's message. Is it her inner beauty coming out? Maybe she is chipping away the fat, or wishing it was just as easy to lose weight by cutting it away? However you see it, it does make one pause and reflect. Or at least it caused ME to!

I have such mixed feelings about it! It sort of glorifies the often unattainable ideal and seems brutally hostile to the overweight reality that so many struggle with. It reinforces our superficial focus on women's appearence.. Yet subconsciously there is something quite compelling about it, and the notion of empowering ourselves to transform ourselves.

Very interesting find!

Wow, I never thought of it that way! I saw it as a person conquering their battle of the bulge. Like a butterfly coming out of a cocoon.
